Chicago: County fails to protect Army Reservist from zoning jihad

Wiley, an Army Reservist who was deployed to Iraq in 2007-2008, shared with them how the county government has failed to protect him, his family, and his neighbors’ property while he was deployed and out of the country, and how they continue to fail them today.



According to Wiley, a muslim group going by the name of the Islamic Center Western Suburb (ICWS) purchased a home in his neighborhood in August of 2008 and have been using it illegally since as a prayer center, cultural center, and food pantry, which it is not zoned for. Wiley lives next door to the property located at 28W774 Army Trail Road near West Chicago, and on January 6th spoke to the Tri-Count-Teas of the extraordinary lengths that have been taken to get the county to enforce the zoning laws in place without prejudice, and the steps that remain. He emphasized that these kind of zoning violations are going on all around the Chicagoland area and they must be stopped, as they do not represent the best interest of the community and ignore our constitutional rights. “They purchased a home in a residential community and should be expected to use it as such,” Wiley stressed. He closed by emphasizing that religious freedoms are just one of the individual rights guaranteed in the US Constitution. Individual property rights and the mandate that we are to be treated equitably are just as important and affect the muslim community as well. Wiley noted that that this is the 3rd time this issue has come before DuPage County, and they rejected the ICWS petition two times before but simultaneously endorsed the ICWS’s tax free use of the property. However, the County has failed to prevent its illegal use.



Wiley is currently a candidate for Trustee of the Bartlett Fire Protection District to be voted on at the April 5th election.
