From The American Thinker:
March 29, 2011
Thank You, President Obama
Michael Geer
In your speech Monday night, you managed to completely justify and agree with the USA's campaign to prevent Communism from spreading throughout Asia, Central and South America, throughout Africa and great swaths of Europe.
You've managed to uproot the Left's most treasured possession, the anti-war movement, and destroy it in a single blow. My hat's off to a disciple of Bill Ayers for undoing everything Ayers stands for.
The Responsibility to Protect, the aegis of your Administration's unseen hands, is a perfect sleight of hand. While R2P is operated by and for Marxist redistribution and realignment principles of power and money, the United States long ago knew that we had the responsibility to protect as much of the world as we could from Communism. Peculiarly, the very seed ground of your career - your raison d'etre and political purpose.
And you have turned on your political family. (snapping my fingers) Like that!
By defining the need to protect and defend innocent Libyan civilians from the vicious attacks of a craven power mad government through the projection and use of American military power, you, Mr. President, have single-handedly defeated every liberal, Leftist and socialist academic argument against the Vietnam War. You, sir, are my new hero because in one stroke you have redeemed every Vietnam War solider, sailor, airman and Marine who were spat upon, despised, shunned and made to feel the wrath of your generation, sir. And the generation which taught you your political legerdemain.
God Bless you, sir for giving them your approval and Presidential blessing.
By invoking the need for American military power to be used in pursuit of protection and shielding the freedoms of people caught up in the horror of bloody conflict between political ideologies, you, Mr. President have offered national genuflection over the tens of thousands of names on our Vietnam Wall; offered condolence and extended peace to the tens of thousands of our best and brightest from that era who now languish, forgotten in Veterans Hospitals. You, Mr, President, by sending our military might into a civilian uprising against despotic powers have renewed America's faith in what was a justified, courageous and necessary struggle to defend the free people of the state of South Vietnam against the cruel brutal inhuman savagery of the communist Democratic Republic of Vietnam in the north.
You've vindicated Ronald Reagan's use of force in Grenada. You've justified Reagan's standing down Communist movements throughout Central America. You've justified the many times American military might has been quietly used in Africa to prevent slaughter. You've vindicated and blessed with the aura of the Presidency every military action undertaken by us to prevent further terror in so many places around the globe, the list is too long here to index.
Thank you, Mr, President. Every Vietnam Veteran thanks you.
After all, according to the doctrine of your principled stand to use American military strength to protect and defend innocent Libyan lives extends back in time to similar instances, doesn't it?
Otherwise, your principles could be interpreted as merely convenient to the moment, and that surely is not what a man full of hope and change and Fierce Moral Urgency would do.
Is it?
