Man jailed over extremist material

A university graduate from Birmingham who published extremist material found in possession of one of the 7/7 bombers has been jailed for three years. Ahmed Faraz, 32, an Islamic studies graduate, was put behind bars after being found guilty of 11 counts of possessing and distributing material that encourages terrorism. Among the various books and multimedia CDs was Lofty Mountain by Abduallah Azzam.
The edition put out by Faraz's Maktabah bookshop and publisher contained endorsements by Osama Bin Laden, and was found to be in possession of Mohammed Sidique Khan, the ringleader in the July 7 bombings of 2005 in London.
The al Qaida training manual, a guide to building improvised explosive devices and a guide to using rocket-propelled grenades were all published by Maktabah, Kingston Crown Court heard. Maktabah books were also found in possession of Ahmed Ali, who was involved in the transatlantic bomb plot in 2006.
In addition, a video of the beheading of British hostage Ken Bigley in Baghdad, Iraq, in 2006 was found in Faraz's home in Poplar Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham.
Faraz published many of his books with essays quoting Bin Laden and Dr Ayman Al-Zawahiri, believed to be al Qaida's current leader. Some of the Maktabah edition inserts advocated jihad and suicide bombing. (...)
