From Jihad Watch:
Iraqi Shiite Religious Authority says U.S. presence in Iraq "haram"
By all means, then, let's end the U.S. presence there. "Iraqi religious authority says presence of U.S. troops on Iraqi soil 'haram,'" from Aswat al-Iraq, April 26 (thanks to Nicholas):
BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Iraqi Shiite Religious Authority, Kadhim al-Husseiny al-Haery, has considered the extension of the U.S. troops presence in Iraq, after the end of their period at the end of the current year as “haram” (religiously forbidden).
“The Religious Authority, Kadhim al-Husseiny al-Haery considers the presence of the American troops in Iraq after the end of their period as “haram” - (religiously forbidden),” a statement by Haery’s office in the Shiite holy city of Najaf said.
Al-Haery is a prominent Shiite religious authority and one of the most outstanding religious and political leaders in Iraq, presently based in the Iranian Shiite religious city of Qum.
He is also one of the most outstanding students of the Islamic Authority, Mohammed Baqir al-Sadr, and has had a strong relationship with the Shiite Authority, Mohammed Mohammed Sadeq al-Sadr, who had instructed his religious successors to follow three authorities after him, with Al-Haery one of the three.
