GLENN: Looking at Stu's got his face in Broke.
STU: I do. This is my first I just got this copy, Page 329 talks about your admiral, admiral thing here.
GLENN: Yeah. I have the raw stats from I didn't look. Where is it in the book?
STU: 329. The department this is talking, defense department is typical of all government entities that has become too bloated and top heavy. The department currently consumes about 40% of its annual bunt in overhead costs. Goes through some other stats here and then it talks about the Navy where there are now more admirals, 315 flag officers than ships.
PAT: 315 admirals.
GLENN: Flag officers, yeah.
STU: Flag officers. 264 ships.
PAT: I thought there was like one admiral. I thought there was, you know, like or at least a couple, you know.
STU: That's like companies because there's one vice president of the United States. But every company has, like, 50 vice presidents of something.
GLENN: Well, you need admiral. I mean, let's not I don't want this to seem like we're coming down hard on the military, because we're not.
STU: No.
GLENN: The military is the only thing in the federal government that actually works. And the only reason why when it doesn't work is because the politicians get involved.
STU: Sure.

GLENN: That's the only reason really.
STU: Yeah. And obviously you can't have, like, exactly the amount of admirals than ships because when one's sick, they should still be able to go out and do stuff.
GLENN: You don't have an admiral on every ship, though.
STU: Well, why not? Why wouldn't you have an admiral on every ship?
PAT: You have captains. They have captains of ships.
GLENN: That's my point. We don't need, we don't need the same number of admirals as we do ships. What I'm saying here is look, I'm not a I'm not a military guy.
STU: Mmm hmmm.
GLENN: But I for this, for this book, for this particular chapter on defense, we talked to some really, really great military guys and we also talked to people like what's his name from Blackwater and said, you know, if you're going to run it like a private company, how do you do it? And so these are, these are out of the you know, these are different ideas. But it's going to take a different idea to be able to run our country and to be able to change and move in the direction that we need to move in.
STU: I'm interested in your case on this. I have not read it yet, but this is a case that you and I argue about a lot.
GLENN: Yeah, because you're like, no, I want to keep spending money on defense, I want to keep spending money on defense.
STU: Yeah. That's the one place I don't want to cut anything from.
GLENN: Right. And I don't, either, because I believe in strong defense.
STU: Right, I know you do.
GLENN: But there are things that we can do.
STU: And still keep, still keep it working as well as we need it to. I understand. I like to see
GLENN: I haven't read honestly I haven't read the book since the final edits and we were, like, 300 pages, typical Glenn book, like 300 pages over. Is the did they leave the did they leave the idea of just, you know, just changing the planes that are flying over Afghanistan? Right now we can you know, we do patrols, and if you just changed from a jet to a prop plane, in six months in fuel costs alone you still have the jets, you know, if you have to do dogfights but we're not really dogfighting anybody. So if you change to props and have the jets on the ground so if something happens, you can get those, you scramble the jets. But if you just changed to prop planes, in six months in just fuel cost savings, you could pay for the prop planes. And then leave the prop planes there for the Afghani defense. So then you train them in prop planes and then we take our big sophisticated jets home.
STU: Yeah, that is on there, Page 328 I'm being told.
GLENN: I mean, so I mean, it's good stuff.
STU: What if you go with hang gliders?
GLENN: Common sense.
STU: If you go with hang gliders, you'd save even more money and then you could just have people just jump off those really tall mountains down there and just fly across the
PAT: Goat, if you just had them ride the backs of goats.
GLENN: Can I tell you something?
PAT: I mean, then you're
GLENN: Quite honestly at this point, yes.
PAT: I don't care, really.
GLENN: I'm willing take our military out and let them patrol with goats or hang gliders or whatever they want to do.
STU: What about goats on hang gliders? I'm saying
GLENN: That's up to the people in Afghanistan. You know, it's time we did not unleash our military and we discredit our military by not allowing them to do their job. We discredit the honor and integrity and the memory of all those who have lost their lives. How many lives have we lost because we didn't fight it, really fight it? And this is a lie that comes again from the progressive left. That, no, you can't fight because you'll just make things worse. Did we make things worse in Germany? We burned Dresden down to the ground. Did we in the end make it worse for Germans or better for Germans? Which was it?
You know what we do you know what we do to our military now? We make them into the neutered parents that we have here in America. "Well, we don't keep score. No, we shouldn't keep score. Well, no, no, no, don't spank your kids. No, don't discipline your kids. Just sit down and talk to your kids. Find out what's wrong with your kids, what they're thinking, what you've done wrong really. As a parent you've probably screwed up your kids."
PAT: Do you know how many times they hear the word "No" by the time they're 2?
STU: Not enough.
PAT: It's like 5,000 times. No one can handle that negativity, no one.
STU: 500 times too few.
PAT: No one.
GLENN: That's what we're doing.
PAT: That's the kind of nonsense we hear.
GLENN: And that's the kind of nonsense that we're now running our military with. And it's come from the same source, the progressive left politician. Stop. Enough.
